First
Instrument: My first instrument
was the organ, then I switched to guitar. I also played the saxophone
in middle school and thoughout high school.
Reason
for playing:
I was taking organ lessons but not really getting the hang of
it. After seeing my best friends older brother Dan Blanzy play
guitar and then witnessing the new music video for "Hot for
Teacher" by Van Halen, I decided that playing the guitar
was what I wanted to do. Seeing Eddie Van Halen playing guitar
on school desks in the library, really inspiried me! Dan later
gave me lessons after I got my first guitar for Christmas at the
age of 8.
Influences:
My top favorites are Jimmy McCarty,
Johnnie Bassett, Peter Green, B.B.King, and Eric Clapton. There
are so many others like Earl Hooker, Freddie King, Albert King,
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duane Allman, Danny Kirwin, Grant Green, Wes
Montgomery, Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, Bob Schnieder, Ian
Moore, Doyle Bramhall Jr., ZZ Top, The Band, Los Lobos, and Ray
Charles. There are so many it would truly fill up the page!
Teachers:
I've taken lessons from various teachers
in the past, but what I think taught me how to play was listening
and transcribing the guitar parts of my favorite players. I would
also have to say that going out to see and sometimes having the
chance to play with the many fine guitarist in Detroit, had a
great influence on me. I thank my dad for taking me when I wasn't
of age yet!
Prior
Bands: Electric Mud (versions
1, 2, and 3), Wailin' Inc., The
Thornetta Davis Band, Al Hill and The Love Butlers, The Michael
King Band, Susan Calloway, The Jiphillianglucas Band, The Brett
Lucas Band, The Blues Allstars w/ Milton Heavyfoot Austin, and
The Reeferman.
Dream
life/Desire: To perform in
beautiful theatres on a regular basis. To play and record with
as many great musicians as I can. Also, to have other artists
record and perform my songs. Oh yeah, to have a jam session with
Clapton!
